Constructed wetlands (CWs) had been widely used to treat the tailwater from sewage treatment plants. However, enduring effectiveness of CWs was still unclear. Therefore, this study aimed investigate chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N), and total phosphorus (TP) removal efficiencies (RE) Hongze CW (HZ-CW) after multi-years’ operation. The average COD RE were 7.6% 15.14% in 4th 5th year, respectively. NH4+-N 78.33% 46.04% respectively, while TP remained high at 66.86% 64.68%. high-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that bacterial community HZ-CW end year exhibited a substantial abundance diversity, Proteobacteria Bacteroidota dominant phyla with relative 33.75–71.8% 11.28–24.53% different zones HZ-CW. Ammonia oxidizing organisms (AOMs) presented much higher (0.43–0.79%) aerated pond (AP) four free water surface flow (FWS1–FWS4) than those anammox bacteria, indicating role nitrification removal.

Landfill leachate contamination is a major risk to natural resources and public health. Sustainable treatment techniques are therefore essential protect the environment living beings’ Biological processes using microorganisms have proven be successful cost-effective could aerobic or anaerobic processes. In particular, involve biodegradation of organic nitrogenous material produce CO2 sludge. Aerobic systems shown efficient in treating young medium-aged leachates but limited old highly loaded leachates. Among different processes, ones that commonly used activated sludge process, sequencing batch reactors, aerated lagoons, those including suspended biomass growth such as rotating biological contactors, membrane bioreactors, biofilm so on. This chapter discussed most adopted from findings this document, it was deduced effectiveness each technology influenced by several factors characteristics, process variables, even site/area which implemented.
