Purpose The objective of the research is to evaluate carbon footprint green asparagus ( Asparagus officinalis L.) supply chain, encompassing agricultural production packaging stage in Italy, as it sixth largest producer and second Europe. It provides an assessment province Foggia highlights global perspective application agro-food systems. Design/methodology/approach (ISO 14067:2018) considers 1 t packaged fresh a functional unit based on primary data collected one leading companies Foggia, which markets about 0.21 kt per year produced 31 ha. Farmers should adopt electricity so reduce electric pump extraction water from artesian wells. Moreover, would be desirable replace mineral urea phosphate organic fertilizers. Originality/value To best authors’ knowledge, scholars have not yet investigated environmental impacts even if represents most cultivated vegetables worldwide, amounts 8.5 Mt year.
