Globally building sector consumes a significant amount of fossil fuel-generated grid energy which emits considerable level carbon emissions. These scenarios can be an obstacle to sustainable or smart city developments. In consists various components, windows are the most influential contribute this consumption. To abate excessive consumption, alternative glazing system is paramount. Among other available energy-efficient glazing, active switchable promising as it altered based on occupant choice. work, four glazings have been studied (electrochromic, suspended particle device, liquid crystal and gasochromic) their operating principle, factors energetic application. It evident that EC has more material aspect investigation overall application for PLDC, SPD needs study. Gasochromic potential in future not explored higher order. However, these types integration buildings how they will impact urban heat islands, part buildings, cities digital twins also discussed.

It is impossible to overstate the role that smart cities and building resilience strategy play in movement toward environmental sustainability, particularly industrialized developing nations. There has been a rise use of efficient systems enhance built environment control accomplish infrastructure development projects, for this be successful, countries around globe, including Nigeria, need robust buildings. Few researchers have looked at how projects might improve sustainability practices Nigeria's context issues. The major research aim study investigate Information Communication Technology (ICT) advancing urban Lagos, amidst city's rapid population growth implementation city projects. study's questions include following: First, How can information communication technology leveraged support sustainability? Secondly, what impact ICT on stakeholders' involvement participation Thirdly, Structural equation modeling using partial least squares (SmartPLS 3.0 Edition) as an analysis tool was used assess suggested model empirical results all hypothesized associations. Results revealed positively associated with sustainability. Also, positive significant influence consolidating stakeholder paramount. Lastly, initiatives potential significantly implication enables possibility optimize ICT-based environment, thereby creating sustainable resilient communities meet needs priorities members society.

As the digital economy becomes new engine of economic growth, China has introduced a series smart city policies aimed at promoting high-quality and sustainable urban development. This paper aims to evaluate green development effects China’s “Smart City Pilot” policy explore heterogeneity across different types cities. Using panel data from 283 prefecture-level cities in 2006 2020, this study examines relationship between construction efficiency using total factor productivity (GTFP). We employ Causal Forest mediation effect models estimate impact pilot on GTFP underlying mechanisms. The main results are: (1) significantly enhances GTFP, finding consistent diverse evaluation approaches. (2) influence varies among cities, such is effectively captured by Forest. (3) varied primarily stems location factors inherent characteristics. Notably, Eastern outpaces that other regions. yields greater benefits with financial medical capital rises, but excessive government public expenditure curtails its positive influence. (4) mechanisms through which promotes exhibit certain differences “high-effect group” “low-effect group”. former predominantly leverages innovation-driven agglomeration effects, while latter chiefly relies industrial structural advancement rationalization.

Human capital is crucial in the development of smart cities and directly impacts quality life. Smart are not made only through their infrastructures applied technologies but also by residents' digital capabilities. In this paper, we analyze relationship between citizens' capabilities perception Specifically, use data from a survey Spain 2023 citizens residing with populations exceeding 100,000 responses 587 individuals. The results reveal significant correlation level skills various factors determining Residents densely populated urban areas show higher levels social happiness when they possess greater Additionally, one questions captured capabilities, enabling identification three clusters. These clusters exhibit differences access to essential services, job opportunities, interaction. more advanced benefit availability services higher-paying jobs, although experience lower Therefore, demonstrate fundamental importance human ability as critical components construction improvement happiness.

Sustainable smart cities (SSCs) target decarbonisation by optimising energy consumption through the emerging capabilities of technology. Nevertheless, behaviour end users has potential to compromise effectiveness technological interventions, reflecting importance active social engagement in realising goals. Although extensive research exists on behaviour, little is known about how technology affects it, nature these technologies, and their role SSC. The paper aims identify, categorise, investigate technologies that impact household behaviours integration into larger SSC system. Following a systematic review 60 articles from Scopus database (2013–2023), study found 45 cited, with 49% affecting efficiency 51% curtailment behaviour. While inform city administration level framework, remains unclear, suggesting technocratic approach. proposes Smart City Network facilitate grassroots approach, identifying five key domains: government policies, adoption, engagement, infrastructure, urban sustainability. provides an original contribution knowledge unveiling outlining pragmatic requirements for achieving
