Understanding the relationship between land-use patterns and regional carbon storage, as well predicting future changes for sink emission management, are of immense significance. This study utilized data from 1990, 2000, 2010, 2020, InVEST model, to evaluate spatiotemporal evolution storage in Sanjiangyuan area over past three decades. Furthermore, predictions 2035 were presented using PLUS model. The findings revealed following key results: (1) land types mainly low cover grassland, medium grassland unused land, among which decreased significantly 1990 wetland increased, is main reason increase storage. (2) Climatic-environmental social-economic factors jointly influenced change area. Except expansion other was by climatic environmental factors. (3) During 1990–2020, source region showed an overall upward trend, with a total 39.97 × 107 t, had positive potential impact on whole. (4) Under natural scenario, both density increased simulation 2035, positive. On this basis, paper puts some suggestions forward improve capacity future. provides valuable scientific insights management decision-making promotes sustainable development functions region.

Ecological stability (ES) is recognized as a crucial factor for sustainable development at global and regional scales. However, the importance of this was not considered significant. Hence, main aim study to introduce new approach that focuses on detecting ES over Maharloo watershed in Iran. To achieve goal, we extracted land use cover (LULC) data from Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform by applying random forest (RF) machine learning method, which obtained Kappa statistics 0.85, 0.86, 0.87 years 2002, 2013, 2023, respectively. We identified both stable unstable regions based LULC changes employed them using forecast ES. The most important predictors ecological were elevation, soil organic carbon index, precipitation, salinity. results research revealed certain areas within have experienced instability recent years, with gardens showing highest percentage (60.65%) among all land-use categories. performance validation our model suggest are reliable (AUC = 0.86). This offers detailed maps trends, offering valuable insights decision makers support landscape conservation restoration efforts. Overall, findings contribute more comprehensive understanding dynamics provide efforts other regions.

Understanding biodiversity is essential for preserving the stability of river ecosystems. However, impact landscape configurations and seasonal variations on within undammed ecosystems remains unexplored. Therefore, we selected Chishui River-a naturally flowing tributary upper Yangtze River-for a survey periphytic algae. The present study focuses fluctuations in β-diversity algae River its correlation with surrounding patterns. Our findings indicate that there substantial influence community structure these ecosystem. Concurrently, observed turnover component predominantly contributes to β-diversity. In light findings, recommend conservation measures be implemented across entire basin safeguard regional biodiversity. Redundancy analysis elucidated water temperature, conductivity, pH were primary environmental drivers shaping algal communities. Furthermore, additional analyses using random forest model indicated fragmentation complexity key determinants Notably, number patches was strongly correlated It important highlight maintaining an optimal balance between their size crucial enhancing ecosystem's capacity preserve summary, our provide insights into interplay land-use practices complex riverine environments, thereby offering scientific foundation management

ABSTRACT As urbanization and industrialization advance, China faces increasingly severe ecological challenges. The Ecological Protection Redline (EPR) policy is a crucial tool for land use management protection but requires comprehensive risk assessment method to address ongoing This study integrated multiple factors with resilience theory establish “Hazard‐Exposure‐Vulnerability‐Damage‐Final Risk” framework, assessing the spatiotemporal dynamics risks of different EPR types in Qinghai Province over 20 years. Path analysis was further used reveal relationships between stages. Results show increasing hazards exposure Water Conservation (WC), Biodiversity Maintenance (BM) Land Desertification (LD) types, improved water conservation, stable biodiversity, controlled desertification vulnerability across regions. Integrated results downward trend WC type, BM type fluctuated improved, an initial increase followed by decrease LD type. revealed that damage WC‐type driven direct hazard impacts, BM‐type vulnerability, LD‐type indirect effects through exposure. emphasizes optimization policies reducing external disturbances enhancing ecosystem resilience, providing recommendations practical experience sustainable management.

The most extensive carbon reservoir system on Earth is found in the vegetation and soil terrestrial ecosystems, which are essential to preserving stability of ecosystems. Land use/cover change (LUCC) patterns ecosystems significantly impact storage (CS). Therefore, it imperative investigate relationship between LUCC CS coordinate regional ecological conservation industrial development. In this study, characteristics spatial temporal changes land use Yanqi Basin from 2000 2020 were revealed using PLUS (patch-generating simulation) model module InVEST (Integrated Valuation Ecosystem Services Tradeoffs) model. This study also predicted evolution response mechanism four scenarios—natural development scenario (NDS), protection (EPS), cropland (CPS), urban (UDS) for years 2030, 2040, 2050. shows following: (1) Between 2020, witnessed an expansion construction land, order dynamic degree as follows: > woodland unused water grassland. At same time, exhibited a trend growth that was followed by decline, cumulative decrease 3.61 Tg. (2) 2050, woodland, grassland, decreased under NDS UDS. Meanwhile, grassland showed expanding trend, there EPS; CPS projected increase 3258.06 km2 (3) UDS always lowest, EPS highest; moreover, 1.18 Tg compared with distribution high value western part region low eastern region, more line historical distribution. (4) human activities one major factors leading CS. direct cause transformation large areas into land. woodlands must be protected improve prevent degradation. future planning needs limit conversion rate various types control optimize pattern, level, adhere concept striving achieve neutrality, realize sustainable provide scientific suggestions carrying out macro-decision making regarding arid areas.

Since the goals of carbon peaking and neutrality have been established, forest sinks garnered significant attention. As a fundamental component sinks, quality land significantly influences sink capacity forests. This study utilized Kaizhou District, Chongqing City, typical area as case study, used correction method, factor CASA model, landscape ecology indexes, canonical correlation analysis to evaluate level reveal spatial distribution pattern influencing mechanisms quality. The results showed that: (i) index public welfare was distributed in [37.89, 148.15], each diversified space. commodity [40.00, 92.67], some high-quality appeared transition zone region; (ii) amount net primary productivity passed test. Primary higher on with lower low-quality index; (iii) mainly positively affected by community structure, average annual precipitation, temperature, soil moisture. Commodity moisture, slope aspect. However, landform had negative impact two types land. Given these findings, we also proposed series measures aimed at promoting sustainable development research regional
