Abstract The utilization of pipe-jacking soil poses challenges due to its complex composition, which comprises polyacrylamide (PAM) and sodium bentonite (Na-Ben) surfactants, hindering drainage solidification. Improper handling may induce environmental pollution. To address this problem, cement solidification was explored after modification with PAM Na-Ben. By performing indoor resistance tests, freeze–thaw cycles, wet–dry SEM, XRD, IR experiments, it found that within certain ratios, effectively stabilizes waste soil. Specifically, minimally impacts waste-soil strength, whereas Na-Ben slightly reduces it. Microscopic analysis revealed although water absorption hinders hydration reactions, (at lower concentrations) promotes mineral particle cohesion during tends aggregate, leading uneven internal structure inhibiting cementitious product formation

With its advantages of high cross-sectional utilization, shallow depth, and uninterrupted surface road traffic, the pipe-jacking method has been widely used in underground passages, metro stations, other projects. However, this leads to a large volume waste soils that must be processed. Pipe-jacking are different from shield-tunneling soils. Therefore, it is not appropriate simply use same treatment for In study, soil samples were improved with 7% polyacrylamide (PAM) 12% sodium-based bentonite solutions, good performance being achieved. Based on this, quick lime fly ash solidification soils, experiments solution concentrations material additions conducted, involving tests compression, freeze-thaw cycling, wet-dry microstructure. The results indicate within ranges PAM addition ratios applied effects will significantly reduced during improvement processes under balanced earth pressure conditions.
