Background Despite China's economic growth, rural living environments have often lagged behind. While public participation is gaining importance in environmental governance, the magnitude and mechanism of its impact remain understudied. Purpose This research investigates relationship between concerns environment China explores how conditions. Methodology Using panel data from 245 prefecture-level cities (2012–2021), we employed entropy method to measure scores used fixed-effect models analyze concern environment. Results The findings demonstrate a positive strong improved environments. Further analysis suggests that local government attention acts as partial mediator this relationship. Conclusion study reveals can influence policies, ultimately leading outcomes. Promoting governance crucial for improving

With the severity of global climate change becoming increasingly evident, shift to renewable energy has become key achieving sustainable development. Using data from prefecture level in China, we construct a comprehensive FinTech index institutional and individual levels using entropy method, aiming capture multi-dimensional value comprehensively. This paper quantifies momentum that provides urban transition. Our investigation shows can play crucial role enhancing transition, especially cities with strict environmental policies, relatively developed economies, eastern midland cities. study further reveals impact path FinTech-driven transformation, find is curb capital misallocation, strengthen public attention, improve green innovation. These results expand research perspective transition provide choice for China realize under dual-carbon goal.

Solid waste governance actions are important to achieve sustainable urban development. This study uses the “zero-waste city” pilot policy as a natural experiment evaluate impact of solid on corporate environmental, social, and (ESG) performance. The research shows that improve ESG performance by enhancing government environmental concerns, public green innovation. analysis spillover effects indicates exerts positive spatial effects. Heterogeneity tests reveal effect is more pronounced in enterprises characterized higher-quality information disclosure stronger internal governance, industries with greater output advanced technology, regions closer government–market relationship, central–eastern regions. As the executor and agent of China’s environmental policy, local governments’ concern reflects determination in governance. To figure out how strengthening concerns affect enterprises’ long-term activities, this study focuses on pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises due to enormous complex composition emissions. We apply bag words summarize relevant from annual work reports governments measure concern. The empirical results OLS method reveal that increasing did decrease growth rate chemical oxygen demand (COD) emission authentically. At same time, it will inhibit research experimental development (R&D) activity intensity, but promote production efficiency enterprises. After that, we discuss heterogeneity enterprise ownership, corporate social responsibility regional regulatory strength Overall, conclude reduce COD efficiency, also has negative spillover effects. novel contribution paper is enriches trade-off between compliance costs innovation activities. These indicate prioritize optimizing existing processes instead adopting efficient technology when complying with stricter regulation. reduction R&D activities may pose risks sustainable
