ABSTRACT Entrepreneurship is a vital source of high‐quality employment in China and crucial advancing Chinese‐style modernization. Using panel data from 281 prefecture‐level cities 2003 to 2021, this study employs difference‐in‐differences double machine learning models examine the impact Belt Road Initiative (BRI) on entrepreneurship. The research findings are as follows: BRI implementation significantly enhances entrepreneurship at city provincial levels, with results remaining robust across various tests. promotes through industrial innovation, digital trade development, economic agglomeration. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that BRI's positive effects more pronounced small medium‐sized central western regions. Furthermore, exhibits significant spatial spillover effects, stimulating neighboring cities. initiative also effectively reduces relative disparities regions, particularly between eastern, central, areas, thus promoting coordinated regional development. Additionally, triple‐difference indicate urban innovation mainly concentrated manufacturing sectors such energy, equipment, information technology. This complements provides policy implications for narrowing gaps full China.
