ABSTRACT Food packaging is essential for ensuring food safety and quality throughout the supply chain. However, widespread use of petroleum‐based polymers has raised significant environmental concerns. As a result, bio‐based have emerged as sustainable alternative due to their biodegradability biocompatibility, offering potential solution plastic pollution. Additionally, incorporation antimicrobial agents into systems crucial controlling microbial contamination extending shelf life. These agents, including inorganic nanoparticles (e.g., metallic metal oxides) organic natural‐based compounds, shown effectiveness in inhibiting growth mitigating biological contamination. This review highlights recent advances focusing on materials that are both safe environmentally friendly. It examines various methods incorporating particularly those derived from natural sources, develop fully solutions. Moreover, this addresses challenges associated with fabricating films tailored specific products, well future prospects large‐scale, applications industry. By analyzing performance these methodologies, aims provide insights advancing technologies.
