Sensitive and rapid technique for elemental analysis of individual nanoparticles is increasingly desired in various research fields such as geochemical, environmental, clinical, biochemical sciences. Among the techniques, single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) becomes one principal choices analytical method because both simple sample preparation high throughput, realizing statistical treatments resulting data obtained from large numbers particles. The capability spICP-MS further improved by combination ICP ion source with types spectrometers including quadrupole-type instrument, multiple collector system setup equipped on magnetic sector, or superfast scanning acquisition utilizing time flight-type spectrometers. In this article, principles applications size, elemental, isotopic using are critically reviewed.
