The widespread application of biodegradable microplastics (MPs) in recent years has resulted a significant increase their accumulation the environment, posing potential threats to ecosystems. Thus, it is imperative evaluate distribution and transformation MPs crops due utilization wastewater containing for irrigation plastic films, which have led rising concentration agricultural soils. present study analyzed uptake polylactic acid (PLA) maize. Seed germination hydroponic experiments were conducted over period 5 20 days, during plants exposed PLA at concentrations 0, 1, 10, 100 mg L-1. Low (1 L-1 10 L-1) significantly enhanced maize seed rate by 52.6%, increased plant shoot height 16.6% 16.9%, respectively, as well elevated aboveground biomass dry weight 133.7% 53.3%, respectively. Importantly, depolymerization was observed nutrient solution, resulting formation small-sized (< 2 μm). Interestingly, further occurred within xylem sap apoplast fluid (after 12 h) with reaching 13.1% 27.2%, growth could be attributed dissolved organic carbon from MPs. Additionally, mediated pH K+ flux (57.2%, 72 h), leading acidification cell wall subsequent expansion. Our findings provide evidence regarding fate interactions plants, thereby enhancing our understanding impacts associated plastics.
