Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer particles released by virtually all cells, with prominent roles in both physiological and pathological processes. The size, number, molecular composition of EVs correlate to the cells origin, modulated cell’s environment pathologic state. proteins, DNA, RNA, protein cargo carried protected degradation, a role targeted intercellular signaling. These properties make salient targets as carriers biomarkers potential therapeutic delivery vehicles. majority EV research has focused on blood, urine, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid due easy accessibility. have also been identified studied ocular biofluids, including vitreous humor, aqueous tear film, study disease is new, promising, underexplored direction unique challenges considerations. This review covers recent advances diagnostic use EVs, focus human applications key preceding vitro vivo animal studies. We discuss future directions based other organ systems sates.
