Phosphorus (P), one of the essential and indispensable elements for growth living organisms, is finite nonrenewable a multitude applications. Economic P recycling can contribute to sustainable management lessen pressure on imports EU. Several European countries now have paved way establishing recovery legislation successively implemented compulsory from P-rich wastes. This paper provided comprehensive review analyzing potential existing resources engineering technologies in terms their feasibility applicability Europe. Potential flows waste streams eutrophic environments were deeply investigated. Regarding technical principles, application, availability, different approaches release enhancement also reviewed critical manner. Moreover, assessments applications considering economic environmental benefits presented. Wastewater treatment plants show promising efficiency, whereas industrial processes with sludge ashes as input allow up 95% P. Collectively, Europe, efficient has been recognized necessary strategy meet growing demand mineral

Poultry manure (PM) has become a serious environmental problem due to large scale of industrial production and unsustainable management, causing emissions greenhouse gases (GHGs), odors, leakage nutrients as well inorganic, organic biological pollutants. The main goal this review was get better understanding carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous cycles in processing poultry with the most common technologies such composting, anaerobic digestion, or thermal processes, e.g. pyrolysis. carbon contained matter (ca. 31%) is mineralized humified under aerobic conditions (matter recovery) and/or converted into biogas (energy recovery). PM feedstock for pyrolysis obtain biochar may effectively store prevent C, thus contributing climate change abatement. During nitrogen reduced from compost mixture by leachates form NH4+, NO3− gaseous NH3, N2O, N2. C/N ratio also decisive parameter. Most threats unmanaged result ammonia nitrous oxide emissions, being higher compared cattle cow independently technological processes. mainly inorganic (32-84%). Using untreated fertilizer does not allow taking up high doses phosphorus manure, so excess accumulates soil then leaches groundwater. Biochar struvite are an alternative storage source concentrations phosphorous. Cycles integral effect used management.

The ability of modern agriculture to meet future food demand imposed by accelerating growth the world's population is a major challenge, and fertilizers play key role replacing nutrients in agricultural soil. Given need for fertilizers, their cost nonrenewable resources energy, consequences greenhouse gas emissions required make them, people have begun explore ways fertilizer manufacturing use more sustainable. Using data from CAS Content Collection, this review examines analyzes academic patent literature on sustainable 2001 2021. breakdown journal publication over time topic, country or region publications, substances included published research, among other things allow us understand general progress field as well classes materials concepts driving innovation. We hope that bibliometric analysis literary will assist researchers relevant industries discover implement supplement conventional nutrient sources while improving efficiency sustainability waste management ammonia production.

In this work, chicken meat and bones (C-MBM) waste is treated through a sequence of stages including hydrothermal treatment (HTT), nutrient recovery anaerobic digestion, with the aim evaluating their potential synergy as circular economy approach. HTT was carried out at 170, 200 230 °C, under non-acidic acidic conditions using 0.5 M HCl (HTT-A). Phosphorous from process water recovered by chemical precipitation addition Mg salt, liquid effluent anaerobically to degrade organic matter produce methane-rich biogas. Hydrochar obtained presented poor combustion characteristics, while HTT-A yielded bio-oil high higher heating value (≈38 MJ/kg), good combustibility performance reactivity. More than 95% phosphorous (as phosphate) almost 100% nitrogen (being 30% NH4–N) content in C-MBM were solubilized upon HTT-A, these nutrients mainly retained hydrochar reactions. Chemical P NH4–N allowed recovering crystalline solid identified struvite struvite-apatite mixture, negligible heavy metals content. High methane production (250–300 mL CH4/g CODadded) removal (up 75%) achieved tests. proves be suitable for material energetic valorization C-MBM, within framework, which allows obtain value-added products (hydrochar/bio-oil, biofertilizers biogas).
