The frequent occurrence of oil spills and the massive discharge oily wastewater pose a significant threat to sustainable healthy human development. Therefore, it is importance effectively separate oil–water mixtures. Inspired by nature, many superwetting surfaces/materials for separation have been developed in recent years. However, these are subject certain limitations unable fully meet practical needs. With advancement laser technology, novel solution has provided fabricating materials. Based on design theory mechanism, this paper summarizes research progress laser-fabricated First, basic wetting theory, strategy, mechanism materials introduced detail. Subsequently, materials, including superoleophilic/superhydrophobic superhydrophilic/superoleophobic with reversible or superamphiphilic wettability, systematically summarized analyzed. Finally, challenges future directions discussed.
