The removal of toxic and persistent organic pollutants is one the major engineering challenges for water treatment. Development Fenton-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) has shown promising results over remediation control. present critical review presents a benchmark framework understanding on recent advances such AOPs based abatement phenol as model pollutant, considering articles published in period 2019–2023. Fundamentals, effect operating variables degradation mineralization waters, role situ generated oxidizing agents are summarized analyzed competitiveness niche application homogeneous heterogeneous Fenton, photo-Fenton, hybrid photocatalysis/photo-Fenton, electro-Fenton, photoelectro-Fenton. Especial emphasis made strategies designed to overcome narrow pH limitation 3.0 Fenton reaction. A comparative cost analysis above revealed that electro-Fenton was most viable cost-effective process. shows can be used reference assess notable impact AOPs.
