We conducted a systematic literature review of the current state research on social perceptions invasive species, aiming to provide guidance towards transdisciplinary and participatory decision making. In order detect patterns regarding publication trends factors determining we applied qualitative content as well quantitative data analysis. By applying analysis, identified five main categories influence perception species: ecological conditions, values beliefs, impacts, benefits. The disciplinary focus was predominantly interdisciplinary, followed by sciences approach. Our revealed disproportionate use methods in yet were less likely identify benefits species. However, without understanding perceived benefits, researchers managers lack socio-cultural context these species are embedded in. also geographical, methodological taxonomic bias majority studies focused local public, whereas fewer than half decision-makers. Furthermore, our results showed differences among different stakeholder groups. Consensus over definition terminology lacking clearly value-laden. foster sustainable management should transparent discourse about inherent invasion science.

Abstract Conservation research and practice are increasingly engaging with people drawing on social sciences to improve environmental governance. In doing so, conservation engages power in many ways, often implicitly. scientists practitioners exercise when dealing species, the environment, they trying address relations ensure effective outcomes (guiding decision‐making, understanding conflict, ensuring just policy management outcomes). However, engagement is limited or misguided. To challenges associated conservation, we introduce four dominant approaches analyzing who less familiar theories of power. These include actor‐centered, institutional, structural, and, discursive/governmental complement these more common framings power, also discuss further approaches, notably non‐human Indigenous perspectives. We illustrate how operates at different scales contexts, provide six guiding principles for better consideration practice. include: (1) considering spaces (2) clarifying underlying values assumptions actions, (3) recognizing conflicts as manifestations dynamics, (4) wins loses (5) accounting participatory schemes, (6) assessing right intervene consequences interventions. hope that a deeper can make while improving transdisciplinary

For management strategies aimed at biological invasions, a detailed survey of the general public's knowledge is crucial. this purpose, our present study to (i) investigate level comprehension regarding (ii) assess ability responders discriminate between invasive and native species, (iii) evaluate conservation support. Increased awareness invasions on part respondents positively influences willingness protect fish crayfish species not their counterparts. Higher identification scores by participants significantly decreased support species. Female were more willing including ones. Respondents could better extent than crayfish. Without public citizen-aimed education, we will be unable conduct sustainable prevent further species' introductions translocations.

Abstract Invasion science addresses interconnected ecological, economic, and social challenges posed by the introduction of nonnative species. Therefore, invasion scientists have to consider reconcile interdisciplinary needs while addressing potential implications their findings. Navigating diverse disciplines, including environmental sciences, ecology, economics, humanities, seek arrive at informed decisions on risk, impact, management. In present commentary, we examine conceptual ethical dilemmas within field science, particularly reputational risks discipline perpetuating its own relevance framing invasions as insurmountable challenges. discussion, highlight how incentive structures, biased assessments framing, conflicts interest may compromise discipline's integrity. Invasive alien species are widespread in freshwater systems compared to terrestrial ecosystems. Among crustaceans, crayfish particular have been widely introduced and considered a major threat ecosystem functioning. New emerging techniques for detecting controlling invasive protecting endangered native are; thus, now highly desirable several under evaluation. Important innovations developed recent years detection of both crayfish, mainly through eDNA, which allows the target even at low abundance levels when not directly observable. Forecasting models also moved towards creation realistic invasion scenarios, allowing effective management plans be advance invasions. The importance monitoring spread impacts pathogens developing national data research networks is emphasised; here “citizen science” can play role. Emerging still being field control. Background: This paper aims to extend the application of social marketing and environmentally beneficial behavior change providing a three-step process—Co-create-Build-Engage (CBE).
