Soil microbial fuel cells (MFCs) can remove antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) simultaneously, but their removal mechanism is unclear. In this study, metagenomic analysis was employed to reveal the functional involved in degradation, electron transfer nitrogen cycle soil MFC.The results showed that MFC effectively removed tetracycline overlapping area of cathode anode, which 64% higher than control. The ARGs abundance increased by 14% after added (54% amplified belonged efflux pump genes), while decreased 17% MFC. Five potential degraders were identified, especially species Phenylobacterium zucineum, could secrete 4-hydroxyacetophenone monooxygenase encoded EC 1.14.13.84 catalyse deacylation or decarboxylation. Bacillus, Geobacter, Anaerolinea, Gemmatirosa kalamazoonesis Steroidobacter denitrificans since ubiquinone reductase (encoded 1.6.5.3), succinate dehydrogenase (EC 1.3.5.1), Coenzyme Q-cytochrome c 1.10.2.2), cytochrome-c oxidase 1.9.3.1) flavoprotein-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 1.5.5.1) served as complexes I, II, III, IV ubiquinone, respectively, accelerate transfer. Additionally, metabolism-related gene 16% support efficacy MFC, 1.7.5.1, coding mutual conversion between nitrite nitrate obviously improved. The promoted bacterial growth, (including cycling, transfer, biodegradation), facilitated ARG removal. Therefore, MFCs have expansive prospects remediation antibiotic-contaminated soil. This study provides insight into biodegradation at level bioelectrochemical remediation.

This study aimed to model simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) shortcut (partial) SND processes coupled phosphorus removal in lab-scale moving bed biofilm reactors based on data collected during two different experimental campaigns. Modeling was performed using BioWin 6.0 accurately predict the results. A sensitivity analysis conducted for first campaign identified most influential process parameters. The absolute variance, Thiel's inequality coefficient, normal objective function were used evaluate consistency of modeled data. calibrated validated models satisfactorily reproduced all campaigns within acceptance criteria, resulting a suitable tool predicting efficiency. Moreover, test dissolved oxygen (DO) ranges (0.6–0.8 mg O2·L−1), pH (6.5–9.0), hydraulic retention time (HRT) (0.5–1.0 d) improve SND. Based simulated scenarios, intermittent DO conditions can induce maintain inhibition nitrite-oxidizing bacteria with an average N-NO3− concentration 0.05 N·L−1, while HRT 0.9 d resulted effluent N-NH4+, N-NO2− concentrations 4.0, 0.02 0.07 mg·L−1, respectively, indicating efficient process.

This study explored electrooxidation pretreatment of reject water and condensate generated using sludge dewatering with goal improving its treatment a membrane bioreactor (MBR) also prevent fouling. Initially the important parameters for process were optimized. The results showed that total current 4.03 A/L, density 60 mA/cm2, pH 7, 1500 mg/L Cl- ion concentration best in terms solubilization removal fouling-causing substances from wastewater. colour wastewater could be as high 92.4% (7 unit (CU) treated effluent) under optimum operating condition. For biological treatment, four-tank system consisting consequently placed anoxic aerobic compartments final tank containing MBR was used. When compared untreated wastewater, treating EO pretreated significant improvement fouling measured transmembrane pressure (TMP). Further nitrogen TOC achieved by extending duration subsequent HRT treatment. findings clearly demonstrates potential integrating combined conventional plant reducing influent pollutant load.
