The high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) is a major strategy related to China's overall national development. Based on synergy/trade-offs production, living, and ecological functions (PLEFs) in YREB from 2000 2020, this paper puts forward suggestions for optimization territorial space promote YREB. mechanistic equilibrium model was applied determine synergy/trade-off relationship PLEFs, key factors affecting coordination degree were analyzed with help geographical detector geographically weighted regression (GWR) further identify trade-off zones propose differential strategies. results showed that average synergy PLEFs decreased 0.18 0.08 during study period, developed higher level, forming local patchwork "highlands" space, gradient divergence west east. land-use degree, landscape, slope, traffic, nightlight index dominant influencing their q-values 0.30, 0.27, 0.20, 0.14 order, significant spatial differences effects each factor's role. deviation three function-dominated divided, it found an evolutionary trend function domination (2000) production (2010) (2020). antagonistic dysregulated states identified, proposed targeted findings provide theoretical reference sustainable use resources regional rest country.

The ecosystem services (ESs) interactions of dryland, play a significant role in maintaining stability and supporting human well-being against the backdrop growing worldwide drought. Nevertheless, quantitative evaluation this topic has been limited. Therefore, we analyzed variations seven ESs (livestock production, carbon sequestration, water yield, microclimate regulation, soil conservation, sandstorm prevention, habitat quality) from 2000 to 2020 Hunshandak sandy land. Further utilizing machine learning, discerned variety vital interactions, alongside their fundamental drivers. results showed that synergies are considered be most crucial relationships between ESs. China has made great efforts to establish an ecological compensation mechanism, but there lacks empirical evidence on whether this scheme effectively reduces air pollution. To test the effectiveness of quality (AQEC) pollution control, study considers 114 resource-based cities in and uses a multi-period difference-in-difference (DID) model for analysis. The finding shows that AQEC policy significantly concentration pollutants by promoting prevention local authority enthusiasm abatement, resulting average annual decrease PM2.5 concentrations approximately 3.9 µg/m3 pilot cities. eastern northern China, those with less financial pressure have greater inhibitory effects recommends establishing long-term protection mechanisms implementing differentiated policies focused green technological innovation autonomy.

Based on the need for optimal spatial configuration of national land, this study utilizes a multi-source data integration method at grid scale to precisely assess levels production, living, and ecological functions (PLEFs) in Nanjing Metropolitan Area (NMA). Simultaneously, we develop an identification system both mechanistic equilibrium model comparative advantage index, which is applied identify enhance zoning space (PLES) within NMA. The findings indicate that: (1) production function NMA has shown significant growth trend, while increments living are relatively modest, with each transitioning from concentration dispersion. (2) distribution PLEFs exhibits distinct characteristics: High values concentrated northeast, southwest lower values. Living elevated central region but diminish toward northern southern regions. Ecological south decline There also variations centers gravity these functions. (3) consists six functionally-dominant spaces twelve functionally-composite spaces, showing fluidity during period. Traditional classification systems that prioritize only natural features while disregarding human activity can result redundancy conflicts planning. Production–Living–Ecological Space (PLES) approach was developed as an integrated method for territorial classification. However, most existing studies on PLES are conducted at provincial scales, largely overlooking fine-scale usage within cities. In addition, concept has been vaguely defined, resulting linear simple identification methods not applicable to complex environments. To address these issues, this study proposes identify based supervised using random forest models, which integrate empirical knowledge multi-source heterogeneous information. experiments Haikou reveal regional aggregation living production spaces scarcity ecological space city.
