The rapid urbanization witnessed in developing countries Asia and Africa has led to a substantial increase municipal solid waste (MSW) generation. However, the corresponding disposal strategies, along with constraints land resources finances, compounded by unorganized public behaviour, have resulted ineffective policy implementation monitoring. This lack of systematic targeted orientation, combined blind mapping, inefficient development many areas. review examines key challenges MSW management from 2012 2022, drawing insights 171 academic papers. Rather than solely focusing on recycling, study proposes sorting at source, optimization landfill practices, thermal treatment measures, strategies capitalize value as more pertinent solutions aligned local realities. Barriers optimizing systems arise socio-economic factors, infrastructural limitations, cultural considerations. emphasizes importance integrating area into circular economy framework, focus enhancing citizen participation reduction promoting recycling initiatives, seeking economic assistance international organizations.

In this article, the impact of Russia–Ukraine conflict on food security in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is analyzed. With Ukraine being recognized as one major global grain producers exporters, seen posing a significant challenge to MENA countries, which are heavily dependent imports from Ukraine. The importance linkages supply chains their influence regional highlighted context. Utilizing secondary data 2002 2021 obtained United Nations Food Agriculture Organization (FAO), study focuses demography security, analyzing how these factors intertwine with export dynamics. escalating hostilities have disrupted transportation routes, damaged infrastructure, hindered logistics, resulting substantial volume reductions. Geopolitical tensions exacerbated effects, diminishing confidence among importers. highlights disruptions influenced chains, prices, agricultural product availability, specific focus region’s challenges compounded by conflicts, climate change, import dependence. A detailed demographic analysis reveals population changes demand distribution, offering insights into growth urbanization, alongside shifts malnutrition obesity rates, affect security. concludes that increasing reliance imports, coupled climatic political variabilities, underscores its growing vulnerability chain need for robust strategies address challenges.

The objective of this article is to investigate the integration a digestate treatment with biogas plant processing sewage sludge and food waste via process simulations: co-HTC mixed digestates supercritical water gasification (SCWG) aqueous effluent. optimum conditions are selected based on energetic yields, comparing relative equipment sizes besides hydrochar product. 200 °C, 30 % solid load, 1-h residence time for mixing ratios in scope: yields 3.58–3.59 MJ/kg reactor inlet. These result more than 60 K, P, N recovery hydrochar. SCWG effluent provides complete mineral form surplus energy production through syngas while causing some nitrogen loss as N2 gas. Although data calculated from individual HTC results, synergetic effect yield does not affect selection investigated (the origins digestates). Consequently, plants can evolve into multi-product biorefineries proposed integration. Meanwhile, study guide future experiments reduce required runs.

Abstract Today, the transition to renewable energy from conventional practices is more important than ever establish security and mitigate climate change. The wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) consume a remarkable amount of cause significant greenhouse gas emissions. balance WWTP can be improved by implementing energy-efficient applications such as anaerobic digestion. However, most existing WWTPs utilize only sewage sludge in digesters (CAD) which results low biogas generation. Generally, co-digestion indicated an effective solution for generation faced mono-digestion. Moreover, recently, membrane bioreactors (AnMBR) have been promoted prominent alternative CADs. This paper overviews current situation AnMBRs municipal WWTPs. Furthermore, environmental economic aspects these were reviewed. Lastly, challenges future perspectives related AnMBR thoroughly discussed. Graphical
