Distance-decay relationships (DDRs) are a useful method for describing the spatial distribution of biological communities. However, patterns macroinvertebrate DDRs and mechanisms community assembly in continuous lotic-lentic (river-lake) systems remain poorly understood. We compared temporal biogeographic communities different water types (river vs. lake) temperate zone China. Data were collected from 152 sampling sites Daqing River Basin over two years, multivariate statistical analyses conducted. These results provide first description biogeographical Macroinvertebrates both river lake exhibited contrasting compositions, likely due to habitat differences. All showed significant distance-decay pattern waterbody types, with stronger lake. In lake, environmental variables contributed communities, while river, slightly more important than variables. Spatial influenced directly impacted indirectly. Importantly, these strongly driven by stochastic processes. Additionally, taxa formed ecologically taxonomically distinct groups, potentially structured deterministic The normalized stochasticity ratio (NST) quantified community-building process based on neutral model, indicating that processes may dominate rivers, lakes. findings highlight roles shaping lotic lentic systems, providing new insights into river-lake ecosystems.
