Recent evidence indicates that, at present, antibiotic is evolving an alarming rate as defense mechanism against anthropogenic chemical stresses. Mechanistically, bacterial to antibiotics involves reduced permeability, active efflux, modification target site, and/or inactivation molecule encoded by genes (ARGs) that are majorly carried mobile genetic elements (MGEs). Over the last few years, cumulative use of antibiotics in healthcare institutions, as well rearing livestock and poultry, has resulted accumulation antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). This presents a substantial danger to human health worldwide. The characteristics airborne ARGs, especially those transferred from outdoors indoors, remains largely unexplored neighborhoods, even though majority population spends most their time there. We investigated ARGs mobile genetic element (MGE, IntI1), plant communities, microbiota respiratory disease (RD) prevalence using combination metabarcode sequencing, real-time quantitative PCR questionnaires 72 neighborhoods Shanghai. hypothesized that (i) urbanization regulates abundance, (ii) effect on varies seasonally, (iii) land types are associated with abundance. Supporting these hypotheses, during warm season, abundance peri-urban areas was higher than urban areas. also affected by surrounding communities: an increase proportion gray infrastructure (e.g., residential area) around can lead some (mecA, qnrA, ermB mexD). Additionally, there were variations observed relationship between bacterial genera different seasons. Specifically, Stenotrophomonas Campylobacter positively correlated vanA seasons, whereas Pseudomonas, Bacteroides, Treponema tetX cold season.
