Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) solid and liquid products may inhibit seed germination, necessitating post-treatment. The hydrothermal humification (HTH) method addresses this drawback by transforming inhibitory compounds, such as aromatics, into artificial humic acids (AHAs) fulvic (AFAs). This study introduces a novel approach investigating the substitution of commonly used alkaline agent in HTH, KOH, with hydrated lime to develop cost-effective fertilizers from sugar beet pulp, enriching them AHAs. It assesses effects on AHA production soluble organic compounds compared KOH. results indicate that significantly reduces furans (from 560 3.15 mg/kg DM 344 3.86 mg/L process liquid) boosts sugars acids, especially lactic acid 4.70 65.82 g/kg 4.05 22.89 liquid), increasing hydrochar yield (68.8% vs. 27.4% KOH). Despite lower KOH (3.47% 15.50%), lime-treated are abundant calcium magnesium, boasting pH 7. property presents safer more efficient alternative fertilizers. characterization AHAs aligns standard natural substances, while lime-assisted HTH products, applied at level 0.01% w/w, could enhance wheat growth nutrient uptake control group. Importantly, these show no toxicity Daphnia magna, underscoring their potential for sustainable agriculture.
