Abstract Recent climatic shifts have driven increased demand for recycled water as an irrigation source, with many counties in Florida imposing sanctions on allowances lawns. Given these sanctions, there is a need to understand the ways this resource may amplify problems due common lawn care malpractices that still occur, such overwatering. A greenhouse study was conducted at UF/IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center spring of 2022 2023 better how interacts granular fertilizer applications nutrient leaching performance “CitraBlue” St. Augustinegrass ( Stenotaphrum secundatum [Walter] Kuntze) “Celebration” bermudagrass Cynodon dactylon [L.] Pers). Turfgrass grown within lysimeters filled Mason sand, fertilized 49 kg N ha −2 controlled release (42–0–0) or unfertilized, irrigated either potable water. Recycled found significantly increase amount orthophosphate leachate (∼2×) among both grass species years, well nitrate (∼4×) from Augustinegrass. Bermudagrass systems leached more based source depending year. Ammonium positively influenced by species, inducing most presence ammonium bermudagrass. Water main driver cumulative across species. Overuse irrigation, despite not affecting turfgrass performance, markedly associated levels leachate.
