The release of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by human energy exploitation and excessive environmental use has caused substantial contamination. These compounds bioaccumulate in aquatic environments translocate through the food chain, posing risks to health safety. To better understand PAHs surface water chains, this review summarizes their distribution, concentration levels, sources, toxicity various environments. It also examines how PAH bioaccumulation affects organisms health. Globally, have been detected both with an increasing trend. Human activity is main cause results revealed a distinct geographical distribution risk influenced population density, industrial development, climate, seasonal variations. are found remote areas, indicating medium- long-range transport atmospheric dispersion. direct indirect toxic effects via biomagnification. directly correlated pollution. This study emphasizes carcinogenicity such as benzo[a]pyrene, identifying occupational exposure frequencies key factors. enhances our understanding dynamics multiple ecosystems effects, thereby contributing sustainability.
