The solids in sewage sludge are primarily composed of organic matter and offer new possibilities for sustainable management, if considered as a stable biomass source terms quantity quality. Reducing the volume with an extremely high moisture content is challenging, enhanced dewatering through mechanical treatment crucial from environmental sustainability perspective because it alleviates reliance on thermal treatment. This study employed ultrasonication to enhance efficiency activated sludge. disruption induced by notably facilitated elimination intracellular water during expression. Additionally, ultrasonicated was verified be re-flocculated introducing inorganic electrolytes such Ca2+ (divalent cations), Al3+ (trivalent polyferric sulfate. Conversely, no re-flocculation disrupted observed upon applying polymer flocculant. Under optimized conditions, progressed form large flocs, leading decreased suspended (SS) value 1423 73 mg/L reduction capillary suction time (CST) over 2000 18 s. Following pretreatment, mechanically expressed cake at 500 kPa significantly 76 wt% (untreated sludge) less than 60 (treated due water.
