An anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) combines the advantages of treatment and filtration to provide a sustainable, efficient, versatile wastewater solution. This review paper provides an exclusive analysis state-of-the-art AnMBR technology from 2010 2024. Important advancements are highlighted showcase strategies for improving system efficiency. As part conscious efforts towards circular economy sustainability, comes as prospective solution turning sewage plants into resource recovery facilities. Maximum productivity AnMBR, typically low-strength is achieved in mesophilic temperature conditions with effective hydraulic retention times ranging 4 8 h depending on influent strength reactor configurations. Energy can be by feed up-concentration direct filtration, efficiency 78–96%. The nutrient-rich permeate either directly used fertigation or recovered different post-treatment 83–94% Varied energy consumption rates noted, optimized systems requiring up 30–50% less than conventional activated sludge systems. There tremendous scope development efficient nutrient municipal treatment.
