Rhenium (Re) is an extremely rare element, with a crustal abundance of approximately 0.4 parts per billion (ppb) and sea water concentration 8.3 trillion (ppt). However, Re concentrations in anoxic marine sediments range from 2 to 184 ppb, which attributed reduction the highly soluble perrhenate ion (Re(VII)O4−) insoluble Re(IV) species. Anoxic typically contain Fe(II) sulfide species, could potentially reduce Re(VII) Re(IV). In this study, we examined interactions KReO4 magnetite (Fe3O4), siderite (FeCO3), vivianite (Fe3(PO4)2•8H2O), green rust (mixed Fe(II)/Fe(III) layered double hydroxide), mackinawite (FeS), chemically reduced nontronite (NAu-1) using X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) extended fine (EXAFS) spectroscopy determine valence state speciation Re. Uptake by was rapid, ~50% associated solids within days. contrast, there <10% uptake other phases over 48 Reduction only observed presence rust, producing clusters bidentate-coordinated Re(IV)O6 octahedra.. These results suggest that except for potential Fe(II)-bearing minerals act as reductants ReO4− sedimentary environments requires further investigation.

There is a significantly growing interest in diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, it foreseeable that an unprecedented number of patients will need to be treated with new nuclear medicine therapies. This predicted increase have potentially significant environmental impacts. In this discussion, we show different areas impact, as well possible measures reduce such impact. These may impact from the entire supply chain, starting at production site medical isotopes, energy needed for production, transportation, adaption injected amounts radiopharmaceuticals clinical use. Furthermore, arguments local versus centralized increasing or decreasing procedures other greenhouse gas–emitting imaging tests, radiopharmaceutical waste handling implications, are summarized weighed against current status. Overall, summary hopefully serves basis further discussion community, increases awareness exciting field, even lead implementation measures.

Abstract The study investigated the adsorption behaviour of different activated carbon samples for pertechnetate under diverse conditions. Characterizations A-CF-F and A-CF-Z were done using BET, FTIR, XRD, XRF SEM–EDX methods. In batch experiments, maximum occured at pH 2, with a swift process an optimal phase mixing time determined as 1 h all samples. Analyzing experimental data Langmuir Freundlich models revealed coefficients determination R 2 exceeding 90%. isotherm was found to be more suitable describing process.
