The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on epidemiological characteristics depression among adults in U.S. remains unclear. This study aims to analyze trends prevalence over time and quantify effect its prevalence. Using data from 2007 2023 provided by National Health Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), this examined 36,472 participants. Results revealed an increasing trend 2023. Notably, overall weighted following (12.4%, 95% CI: 10.6-14.1%) was significantly higher than all years prior pandemic. Subgroups such as females, Mexican Americans, young experienced particularly pronounced increases. By analyzing two survey cycles close onset outbreak, identified a significant prevalence, with adjusted odds ratio 1.58 (95% 1.28–1.94). Individuals lower socioeconomic status those without pre-existing conditions exhibited greater increases whereas emotional health individuals who smoke appeared unaffected
