Plastic debris in the global biosphere is an increasing concern, and nanoplastic (NPs) toxicity humans far from being understood. Studies have indicated that NPs can affect mitochondria, but underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The liver lungs important metabolic functions are vulnerable to NP exposure. The presence of microplastics (MPs) in human fluids and organs is a great concern, since, as highlighted by recent studies on animal models, they could cause alterations several physiological functions, including reproduction. In this study, semen samples collected from men living polluted area the Campania Region (Southern Italy), were analyzed to assess MPs. AbstractPlastic debris (including macro-plastics, microplastics (MPs), and nanoplastics), defined as an emerging contaminant, has been proven to significantly affect soil ecosystem functioning. Accordingly, there is urgent need robustly quantify the pollution situation potential sources of plastics in soils.
