Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are emerging organic pollutants that have attracted significant attention in the fields of environmental chemistry and toxicology. Although PFAAs pervasive soils sediments, there is a paucity research regarding their forms driving mechanisms. This review provides an overview classification biotoxicity per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pollutant forms, PFAS extraction analytical methods, prediction distribution soils, current remediation strategies. Four predominant PFAA been proposed soils: (i) aqueous-extracted PFAAs, (ii) organic-solvent extracted (iii) embedded or sequestered (iv) covalently bound PFAAs. Furthermore, it suggests suitable methods predictive models for different which instrumental on speciation soils. Simultaneously, was elemental cycling microbial activity may affect PFAS. Additionally, categorization facilitated analysis pollution remediation. Understanding interplay between speciation, element cycling, bacterial during soil essential understanding mechanisms assessing long-term stability methods. Future studies should expand investigation varying media, consider potential binding to minerals, matter, microbes, evaluate possible variation.
