Microplastics (MPs), or plastic particles smaller than 5 mm, are emerging contaminants that potentially affect aquatic species and humans. More research has been undertaken in the marine environment; however, rivers serve as a sink pathways for entering ocean have received less attention. The current study investigated presence of MPs sediments Cagayan de Oro River, one top plastic-emitting listed Philippines. Sediment samples were collected from six sampling stations upstream to downstream using Van Veen grab sampler. Through stereomicroscope Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), analyzed categorized according color, shape, size, polymer type.
