The heterogeneous catalytic wet air oxidation (Het CWAO) process can be used as a full or an additional wastewater treatment for the complete degradation of pharmaceutical pollutants. This investigation includes critical review related previous studies, requirements, challenges, limits, and scaling up Het CWAO. We found that most studies focused on decolorization conversion instead mineralization to follow progress. Moreover, very few researchers have assessed successive cycles, catalyst deactivation, carbon balance, toxicity, biodegradability which are key index CWAO assessment. Catalyst stability durability significant challenges limitations affects process. With this we opt redirect future research development stable, durable, cost-effective catalysts test, where analysis assessment targeted wastewater.
