Microplastics (MPs) increase global awareness due to their ubiquity, high concentration levels, and devastating effects on the aquatic environment. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are recognized as a significant source of microplastics in terrestrial environments, particularly for plastics used personal care products textile fibers from clothing industry. The focus present study was determination MP wastewater sewage sludge samples WWTP Ioannina city, according shape, size, concentration, polymer type. A wet peroxide oxidation (WPO) method using 30% H2O2 0.05 M ferrous (II) solution applied water effluent, while an enzymatic digestion combined with WPO employed eliminate organic matter extract MPs samples. Micro-Raman spectroscopy coupled appropriate software detect quantify microplastic particles. outcomes this showed that most representative shape effluent fragments (66.7% 75%, respectively), followed by fibers, spheres, films. Polyamide (PA), p -acrylic acid (PAA), -acrylamide-co-p (PAM-co-PAA) were abundant polymers (100% frequency detection), -vinyl chloride (PVC), -butyl methacrylate (PBMA), -ethylene (PE), -styrene (PS), -propylene (PP), alcohol (PVA), butyral (PVB) (20%-80% detection). mean five sampling campaigns 5.8 ± 0.6 particles/L secondary effluents 33.3 8 particles/g sludge. This focused monitoring campaign, order better understand occurrence, impact, risks associated WWTPs.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs) reach the soil environment through application of recycled water, biosolids, and compost in‐situ weathering plastic mulch used in agriculture. This review provides an overview sources MP input to their interactions with biota, thereby impacting biological health. MPs contain various chemical additives can be ingested by activity function. also serve as a vector for inorganic organic contaminants. These environmental contaminants released into porewater during impact biota. Overall, alter soil's physical properties habitat microorganisms. Soil microorganisms use carbon source porous proliferation. Microbial communities have received widespread attention for their essential role in ecosystems, such as driving ecosystem processes, protecting aquatic environments, and restoring ecosystems. Micro-nano plastics (MNPs) are various environments pose health environmental risks, including effects on microbial communities. This study provides a comprehensive review of the potential adverse MNPs growth metabolism, diversity, composition, function Among them, impact community functioning different natural environments. In addition, microorganisms interfering with drinking water treatment processes critically elucidated first time, recommendations current issues presented. will deepen our understanding mechanisms shaping fate, impacts risks treatment.

In today’s ongoing rapid urban expansion, deforestation and climate changes can be observed mainly as unbalanced rain occurrence during the year, long seasons without any at all unordinary high temperatures. These adverse affect underground water levels availability of surface water. addition, quite a significant proportion drinking is used for non-drinking purposes. With several EU countries increasingly suffering from droughts, reusing quaternary treated wastewater help address scarcity. At European level, Regulation 2020/741 Parliament Council 25 May 2020 on minimum requirements reuse was adopted. This regulation foresees use recycled agricultural irrigation. article provides an overview various processes, such filtration, coagulation, adsorption, ozonation, advanced oxidation processes disinfection, treatment in order to remove micropollutants achieve reuse.
