Cadmium (Cd) contamination in agricultural soils and its accumulation plant organs have become a global issue due to harmful effects on human health. The in-situ stabilizing technique, which involves using organic amendments, is commonly employed for removing Cd from soils. Thus, the current study investigated effect of vermicompost (VC) soil properties physio-biochemical attributes, leaf ultrastructure analysis, antioxidant defense mechanisms, grain yields two different fragrant rice cultivars, Xiangyaxiangzhan (XGZ) Meixiangzhan-2 (MXZ-2), under Cd-stress conditions. results showed that toxicity deteriorates quality, plant’s photosynthetic apparatus, mechanism. Moreover, stress, both cultivars produced significantly lower ( p < 0.05) compared non-Cd stress However, VC application alleviated improved qualitative traits, such as carbon, available nitrogen, total phosphorus, potassium. Similarly, amendments physiological activity, apparatus function, enzyme activities related gene expression These enhancements led increased toxicity. addition mitigated adverse chloroplast structure by reducing uptake tissues. This helped prevent Cd-induced peroxidation damage membrane lipids increasing enzymes ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD). On average across growth stages, Pos-Cd + VC3 treatment SOD, APX, CAT, POD by122.2 112.5%, 118.6, 120.6%, 44.6 40.6%, 38.6 33.2% MXZ-2 XGZ, respectively, plants treated with alone. Enhancements activity strengthen mechanism against In addition, correlation analysis strong relationship between net rate chemical suggesting fertility enhances boosts yields. Of treatments, proved be most effective terms enhancing health achieving high outcomes this show Cd-contaminated could useful sustainable production safe utilization Cd-polluted soil.
