The global atmospheric transport of microplastics (MPs) plays a crucial role in the contamination remote, especially higher-elevation, environments. Precipitation is considered main source MP pollution. Meanwhile, plastic waste generated from, for example, tourism activities can be local In this study, we specify which mentioned sources MP, or local, have higher impact on pollution level high-elevation oligotrophic lakes Tatra National Park Poland. Due to its unique natural value, it listed by UNESCO as an international biosphere reserve and meets criteria Natura 2000 areas. We comprehensively analyzed morphometric anthropogenic features 11 terms level, color, shape, polymer type MPs found surface waters. fibers were present all studied lakes, with ranging from 25 179 items/m3. Polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, semi-natural cellulose fibers—black red color length 0.2–1.0 mm—predominated, corresponds other studies conducted remote mountain ecosystems. did not find any correlation number pressure characteristics. turn, significant lake area, coastline length, volume, catchment area indicated airborne sources, including reduced water outflow.
