Metabolomics is an emerging interdisciplinary field focused on the comprehensive analysis of all metabolites within biological samples, making it valuable for areas such as drug development, and environmental analysis. Many compounds, including pharmaceuticals agrochemicals that have been extensively studied by metabolomics are chiral. The intrinsic chirality targets can lead to a selective recognition enantiomers resulting in distinct pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and/or toxicological profiles (enantioselectivity). Given captures instant snapshot organism's metabolic state, serves powerful tool investigate chiral compounds understand enantioselective effects. Herein, systematic compilation scientific literature was performed 48 enantioselectivity studies using were selected. These revealed increasing focus pesticides (77%), use animal models (59%), reliance LC-MS techniques (52%), predominantly untargeted approaches (83%). Enantioselective effects described most studies. This review describes significant advances this highlights unravel role stereochemistry cellular metabolism examination enantiomer-specific Furthermore, elucidates mechanism be further applied other groups compounds.
