Elevated atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition has significantly influenced aquatic ecosystems, especially with regard to their N budgets and phytoplankton growth potentials. Compared a considerable number of studies on oligotrophic lakes oceanic waters, little evidence for the importance been generated eutrophic lakes, even though emphasis placed reducing external inputs control eutrophication in these lakes. Our high-resolution observations depositions riverine biologically reactive species into Lake Dianchi (the sixth largest freshwater lake China) shed new light onto contribution total loads. Annual accounted 15.7% 16.6% loads under variable precipitation conditions, 2-fold higher than previous estimates (7.6%) Dianchi. The proportion further increased 27-48% May June when toxic blooms ubiquitous non-N2 fixing cyanobacteria Microcystis spp. are initiated proliferate. reveal that reduced (59%) contributes greater amount oxidized deposition, reaching 56-83% from late spring summer. Progress toward mitigating other bloom-impacted will be difficult without reductions ammonia emissions subsequent deposition.

Sediment is an important part of the aquatic ecosystem, which involves material storage and energy exchange. However, heavy metal pollution in sediment on increase, becoming concern for world. In this paper, state-of-art situ remediation technology contaminated was elaborated, including water diversion, capping, electrokinetic remediation, chemical amendments, bioremediation combined remediation. The mechanisms these techniques to reduce/immobilize metals include physical, electrical, biological processes. Furthermore, application principle, efficiency scope, advantages disadvantages, as well latest research progress each restoration technology, are systematically reviewed. This information will benefit selecting appropriate effective metal-contaminated specific scenarios.

Lake Chaohu is a typically large shallow freshwater lake in China, experiencing long-term eutrophication and short period of drought. This study employs three-dimensional (3-D) hydrodynamic-ecological model to assess the impacts water transfer on flow, quality, their relationship, then reveals optimal strategies for achieving improved quality Chaohu. Results indicated that clean could dramatically increase flow rate decrease nutrient concentrations near inlets, while grade level not changed. The degree improvement parameters always proportional rate. A through eastern route (ZH) has largest effect average (total nitrogen (TN) total phosphorus (TP)) entire lake. Winter improves TN TP better than summer, opposite ammonia (NH3-N). Decrease wind speed essential mitigating accumulation western lake's heavily polluted bay weakening reverse circulation northwest flow. Water operations are revealed improve Chaohu: conduct ZH winter, strictly control NH3-N concentration donating water, combine effects low east wind.
