The Yangtze River Basin serves as a vital ecological barrier in China, with its water conservation function playing critical role maintaining regional balance and resource security. This study takes the Minjiang (MRB) case study, employing fractal theory combination InVEST model SWAT-BiLSTM to conduct an in-depth analysis of spatiotemporal patterns conservation. research aims uncover relationship between dynamics watershed capacity ecosystem service functions, providing scientific basis for protection management. Firstly, is introduced quantify complexity spatial heterogeneity natural factors such terrain, vegetation, precipitation Basin. Using model, evaluates functions area, identifying key zones their variations. Additionally, employed simulate hydrological processes basin, particularly impact nonlinear meteorological variables on responses, aiming enhance accuracy reliability predictions. At annual scale, it achieved NSE R2 values 0.85 during calibration 0.90 validation. seasonal these increased 0.91 0.93, at monthly reached 0.94 0.93. showed low errors (RMSE, RSR, RB). findings indicate significant differences Basin, upper middle mountainous regions serving primary areas, whereas downstream plains exhibit relatively lower capacity. Precipitation, terrain slope, vegetation cover are identified main affecting changes having notable regulatory effect Fractal dimension reveals distinct structure which partially explains geographical distribution characteristics functions. Furthermore, simulation results based show increasingly climate change human activities frequent occurrence extreme events, particular, disrupts posing greater challenges Model validation demonstrates that SWAT integrated BiLSTM achieves high capturing complex processes, thereby better supporting decision-makers formulating management strategies.

Lake Toba is one of the prioritized conservation lakes in Indonesia, crucial for domestic needs, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and power generation. However, Toba’s water levels discharge have declined recent decades. This study aimed to enhance recharge level through hydrological modeling using SWAT analysis regional specific measures. The utilized input data, including climate, soil, geomorphology, land use, hydrology, generate both existing post-conservation balance models. Conservation methods were categorized into civil engineering vegetative approaches. Vegetative techniques included agroforestry MPTS (Multi-Purpose Tree Species), while encompassed terracing, trenching, infiltration wells. Regional focused on use plant types, involved detailed classification watershed by slope class, type, use. revealed significant changes catchment area, with dry fields increasing from 72,961 ha 125,000 ha, a decrease 905 903 m above sea level, reduction 180 m³/s 125 m³/s. shows that inflow 131 (with 78% accuracy), potential increases 250 due conservation. efforts also improved rates across 39 sub-watersheds Toba, monthly annually.

Abstract. Sustainable management of blue and green water resources is vital for the stability sustainability watershed ecosystems. Although there has been extensive attention paid to (BW), which closely related human beings, relevance (GW) ecosystem security typically disregarded in resource evaluations. Specifically, comprehensive studies are scarce on detection attribution variations Dongjiang River basin (DRB), an important source regional supply Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) China. Here we assess BW GW scarcity quantify impacts climate change land use DRB using multi-water-flux calibrated Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). Results show that storage (GWS) increased slowly at rates 0.14 0.015 mm a−1, respectively, while flow (GWF) decreased significantly a rate −0.21 a−1. The degree low, per capita more than 80 % exceed 1700 m3 year. Attribution results 88.0 %, 88.5 39.4 changes BW, GWF, GWS result from change. Both have (land change) (increased) GWF DRB. These findings can guide optimization allocation between upper lower reach areas further improve understanding evolution patterns humid regions.

Natural ecosystems and water infrastructure (such as reservoirs) jointly exert an influence flow by means of retaining, regulating, storing, releasing water, thereby enhancing the availability resources to satisfy human demands. Previous research has predominantly concentrated on role natural in provision services; however, studies that integrate contributions both quantify their respective impacts provisioning services remain scarce. Here we utilize SWAT hydrological model simulate spatiotemporal dynamics Qinling-Danjiang watershed—an area prone seasonal shortages. The study delineates supply beneficiary areas, quantifying relative watershed ecosystem service values were respectively evaluated delineating areas using scenario analyses. annual Danjiang was 2.394 × 10 3 million m , with significant variation across months. total demand from stakeholders 1.122 agricultural irrigation being largest consumer, 52.81% experiencing a deficit. Under baseline scenario, value 14.602 billion CNY. In without reservoir infrastructure, increased approximately 27% 3.039 (about 18.538 CNY), but exacerbated imbalances. Conversely, ecosystems, dropped over 90% 193 1.179 which insufficient meet regional This provides novel perspective for understanding interactions between offers new approach distinguish contribution services, is great significance accounting nature’s people.
