This work reports the modification of graphitic carbon nitride (CN) through sulfonation (SCN) as an enhanced strategy for photocatalytic activity during oxidation benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. CN was prepared from melamine and functionalized with -SO3H groups using different doses chlorosulfonic acid. The textural, structural, morphological, chemical, optical properties samples were characterized by diverse techniques. increase in doping dose produced, a decrease surface area, blue-shifted absorption edge under irradiation, recombination charges. improved kinetics (BA) aqueous solution raised selectivity benzaldehyde (BD). An optimum dosage precursor led SCN sample highest removal rate selectivity. optimized selected study reactive oxidant species involved process, suggesting that contribution BA superoxide radical, especially terms aldehyde formation. examples enhance production interest industry sustainable scheme involves transformation light into chemical energy water.
