Abstract Mangrove forests are productive ecosystems, acting as a sink for CO 2 , habitat diverse array of terrestrial and marine species, natural barrier to coastline erosion. The species that reside within mangrove ecosystems have important roles play, including litter decomposition the recycling nutrients. Crustacea detritivores in such understanding their limitations (i.e. disease) is an endeavour when considering larger ecological services provided. Histology metagenomics were used identify viral ( Nudiviridae Alphaflexiviridae ), bacterial Paracoccus sp., ' Candidatus Gracilibacteria sp.’, Pseudoalteromonas sp.), protozoan, fungal, metazoan diversity compose symbiome crab, Aratus pisonii . symbiotic groups observed at varying prevalence under histology: nudivirus (6.5%), putative gut epithelial virus (3.2%), ciliated protozoa (35.5%), gonad fungus gill ectoparasitic (6.5%). Metagenomic analysis one specimen exhibiting infection provided complete host mitochondrial genome (15,642 bp), (108,981 Cassava common mosaic isolate (6387 bp). Our phylogenetic analyses group novel with Gammanudivirus protein similarity searches indicate Carcinus maenas nudivrius most similar new isolate. mine short fragments population genetic studies gauge idea this across USA, Caribbean, central southern America. This study report several symbionts based on pathology, taxonomy, genomics (where available) discuss what effect they may crab population. role crabs from OneHealth perspective explored, since pathobiome includes cassava-infecting viruses. Abstract Ascidians are marine invertebrates known to occasionally host symbiotic crustaceans. Although the microbiomes of both ascidians and free‐living crustaceans have been characterized, there is no documentation microbial communities in an ascidian–crustacean symbiosis. Samples solitary ascidian Ascidia sydneiensis ambient seawater were collected Belize. Four amphipod retrieved from branchial sac animal, their compared with those (tunic compartments) seawater. Microbiome richness diversity differed significantly between sample types, exhibiting lower than tunic samples. composition also types among all pairwise comparisons, except for microbiomes. Differential operational taxonomic unit (OTU) analyses revealed that only 3 out 2553 OTUs had different relative abundances amphipods sacs, whereas 72 315 Thus, body compartments A . hosted distinct microbiomes, contained resembling region they inhabit (i.e., sac), suggesting environmental filtering co‐evolutionary processes determinants microbiome within symbioses.
