A Digital Twin (DT) is a digital copy of real-world object or process. Although DT has gained traction in construction, its relationship with sustainable success remains insufficiently studied. This research addresses this gap by investigating barriers to implementing construction. The study employs hybrid approach involving literature review, expert interviews, and modeling techniques, data collected from 108 construction experts based on number criteria, including the experience, degree, familiarity about Hong Kong building sector Kong. findings reveal 45 categorized into six clusters, notable obstacles such as "legacy systems," "data uncertainties," "connectivity." key clusters identified are "performance" "security," while "social" aspect least supported. Recognising these challenges assists decision-makers navigating utilising for environmentally conscious streamlined processes, positive societal impacts. Future could delve integrating sustainability throughout project lifecycle using technology adoption theories.

The global building sector plays a pivotal role in addressing sustainability, climate change, and carbon neutrality. This study introduces the original concept of virtual models (VBMs) throughout lifecycle industry, considering unique characteristics this industry. VBMs are defined as mathematical that represent physical behavior buildings their lifecycle. These consist subvirtual operational environments target building, encompassing variables, equipment, systems, indoor environments, structural material behaviors. can contribute to achieving existing concepts information modeling, digital twins, cyber-physical systems within operations, communities, environments. In study, categorized into five aspects: model types, interactions, integrations, levels detail (LODs). LODs classified (LOD100, LOD200, LOD300, LOD350, LOD400) depending on primary coverage across entire building. Virtual modeling methodologies proposed aspects achieve higher or intended LOD states from both academic industrial perspectives. Finally, future research directions discussed drive shape industry through transformations.

Information and automation technologies play a pivotal role in achieving cyber-physical integration within Construction 4.0. In this transformed landscape, the evolution of construction management paradigm carefully considers enhancement business models organizational structures to prioritize stakeholders' well-being, environmental sustainability, heightened resilience. A significant challenge lies effectively managing coordinating myriad multi-source heterogeneous entities using information technologies. The key obstacle is synchronizing these elements based on interoperation optimize multiple objectives seamlessly. Hence synchronization emerges as crucial factor for orchestrating sustaining harmonious relationships among or activities delimited spatial-temporal framework. This ensures seamless aligned coordination throughout dynamic processes. Therefore, paper presents strategic roadmap synchronized management, derived from thorough analysis fundamental 4.0, aimed at advancing current practices. Moreover, articulate approach systematically, an Orthogonally Synchronized Digital Twin (SDT) model with regular expression formulated, built upon proposed reshaped management. study provides valuable insights stakeholders industry, including architects, engineers, project managers, policymakers. findings guide decision-making digital twin adoption construction, supporting practitioners enhance efficiency improve outcomes, offering industry advancement towards human-centrality, Future research should focus validating SDT real-world scenarios, exploring synergies between AI twins, investigating advanced holistic smart cities

Intelligent construction is a necessary way to improve the traditional method, and digital twin can be crucial technology promote intelligent construction. However, field currently needs unified method build standardized universally applicable model, which incredibly challenging in Therefore, this paper proposes general construct process model based on Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) standard, aiming realize real-time monitoring, control, visualization management of site. The constructs fusion from three levels: geometric resource behavioral by establishing an IFC semantic process, storing data site into database, completing dynamic interaction database. At same time, platform developed control Combined with practical cases analysis, implementation effect shown verified. results show that adapt itself different scenarios site, conducive promoting application provides reference research practicing theory practice.
