Cool roofs are roofing systems designed to reflect significant solar radiation, reducing heat absorption and subsequent cooling energy demands in buildings. This paper provides a comprehensive review of cool roof technologies, covering performance standards, material options, energy-saving potential, hygrothermal considerations. The examines provisions current codes which specify minimum requirements for reflectance, thermal emittance, reflectance index (SRI) values. These criteria often vary based on factors like slope, climate zone, building type. Different materials explored, including reflective paints coatings that can be applied existing as cost-effective solutions. Several studies demonstrated the benefits roofs, showing reductions loads, indoor air temperatures, peak demand, overall consumption compared traditional roofs. However, must evaluated, especially cold climates, optimize insulation levels avoid moisture accumulation risks, reduced alter migration patterns within envelope. While provide substantial savings hot further research is needed validate modeling approaches against real-world studies, investigate impact seasonality green spaces efficacy urban island mitigation, explore control, condensation risks humid environments.

Abstract This study investigates numerically the effects of a bimetallic flexible fin on heat transfer and melting process liquid phase change material (PCM) within cavity. The is attached to left heated wall governing equations system model in fluid structure domains are written Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) formulation then solved by Multiphysics commercial software (COMSOL 6.1). results demonstrate that significantly enhances compared fixed fin, leading faster PCM for different values Rayleigh number. Moreover, configuration leads more uniform temperature distribution time (up 11% reduction) fin.

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to great changes the climate, such as global warming, urban heat islands, frequent fluctuations in ambient temperature, also a large amount of building energy consumption. Adaptive provides an appropriate solution maintain low consumption under various indoor outdoor conditions therefore has increasingly gained attention recently. Yet there is no clear definition on adaptive buildings current literature often focuses envelope overlooks buildings’ mechanical system, which important part system for responding requirements conditions. This article presents systematic review research development address identified gaps. Firstly, it introduces discusses evolution concept building. Secondly, reviews technologies roof, wall window. Thirdly, investigates progress especially lighting air-conditioning systems. Lastly, demonstrates practical applications recommendations future directions buildings.

The penetration of increasing solar gain towards the building deteriorates building's thermal quality and raises cooling demand. In particular, roof receives most gain. system reformation is urged to improve system's heat capacity conserve energy. This paper introduced a novel cool roofing replace traditional system. proposed applications merged: (i) lightweight foam concrete, (ii) hollow concrete slab, (iii) white paint (iv) active reflective insulation powered by discovery was evaluated with experimental chambers exposed outdoor environment. Under intense sunlight, internal surface 30.6 % cooler (50.5 °C 35.0 °C). mean attic temperature achieved 33.9 under field where daily maximum recorded surrounding 43.0 °C. contrast bare at 41.9 °C, design demonstrated 19.2 lower gain, achieving sub-ambient structure. Besides that, demand simulation generated similar savings (20 %). Significantly, this comprehensive exhibited considerable constructive outcome in buildings sustainable development create better more environmental future for all.
