Background Education for diabetes patients is not managed well by nurse educators because the competency of low, and number in hospitals commensurate with patients, which much larger. Methods This qualitative phenomenological research uses an exploratory design. Twenty managers forty staff nurses who participated focus group discussion (FGD) were selected using purposive sampling. Nine in-depth interviews snowball method. The results FGD exploration produced components developing educational model a management approach. development this input, process, output, outcome input King’s conceptual framework approach, method theory goal attainment functions, output to educate health literacy patients. was reviewed three experts: nursing expert, mellitus expert. Results Diabetes approach consists five stages: 1) Educational planning includes identifying targets, strategy formulation, situation analysis. 2) Organizing resources strengthening role as educators. 3) Nursing intraprofessional collaboration between patient families. 4) Direction nurses’ motivation respecting culture values 5) Control evaluating education Conclusion has competencies, are structured systematic so that have competence manage education: personal system, interpersonal social system influence competency.
