Abstract This study aimed to estimate the impact of economic globalization on environmental quality and examine role renewable energy production (REP) in this impact. For purpose, annual data 1976–2021, which is longest possible period, top 5 countries (Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, France, Denmark) that show best performance according Global Green Economy Index 2022 report, were used. These chosen due their high green economy integration; thus, it was considered research could provide reference results for other countries. In order achieve this, panel smooth transition regression model applied dataset. nonlinear approach divides series into homogeneous regimes depending threshold variable allows us make regime-specific interpretations. As a result, study, REP defined as variable, has shown there two-regime relationship between globalization. According findings, caused an increase degradation first regime, had low REP. However, eliminated second where high.
