Abstract This study investigates the effect of microwave (MW) treatment on disintegration municipal activated sludge. Sludge samples underwent heating at a targeted temperature 90°C for 35 minutes, with 5-minute retention time. Soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD), sugars, proteins, nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) exhibited notable increases compared to untreated samples. Results indicate substantial (42-45%) rise in methane production during anaerobic digestion process disintegrated sludge counterpart Methane was estimated using transference model, which showed best fit other models. Further experimentation involved testing digested excess soluble ammonium recovery struvite 1.50/1/1 (Mg/N/P) ratio. The findings reveal that up 90.09% 90.43% orthophosphate ammonium, respectively, can be efficiently removed from solution. Despite increased output, energy recovered insufficient offset electrical used by MW. Notably, filter resistance performance deteriorated significantly, increasing 1.64×10 14 m/kg control 3.76×10 treated
