Environmental contamination by heavy metals poses significant threats to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, necessitating the development of effective remediation strategies. Conventional methods for metal removal exhibit limitations, including inadequate efficiency elevated costs. In this context, microalgae have emerged as a promising bioremediation approach due their robust metal-binding capabilities, specifically through biosorption. This review comprehensively examines role in addressing pollution, with primary focus on from wastewater. Microalgae offer wastewater purification potential across diverse sources capitalize growth matrix, yielding valuable bioproducts, biomaterials, bioenergy. Their versatility allows them thrive various wastewaters, facilitating contaminant removal. study also investigates application decentralized water treatment systems (DWTSs), where nature these proves advantageous contaminants directly at point generation or use. holds particular significance regions centralized face obstacles geographical constraints, infrastructure, financial limitations. DWTSs not only provide solution but prove disaster relief scenarios rapidly growing urban areas.

Abstract In this study, a CoO–Fe 2 O 3 /SiO /TiO (CIST) nanocomposite was synthesized and utilized as an adsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB), malachite green (MG), copper (Cu) from aqueous environments. The characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD). Input parameters included pH (3–10), contact time (10–30 min), amount (0.01–0.03 g), pollutant concentration (20–60 mg L −1 ). effects of these on the removal process efficiency were modeled optimized response surface methodology (RSM) based Box–Behnken design (BBD). Abstract Recent textile industry expansion has a major environmental impact if not addressed. Being water intensive industry, manufacturing is usually associated with wastewater management challenges. Electrocoagulation (EC) recognized as one of the effective solutions to address these This study aims investigate potential integrating seawater into EC process for treatment, targeting optimal pollutant removal efficiencies. A simple electrolytic reactor was designed efficiency treatments chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), turbidity, and color from at different percentages retention times. Notably, addition only improves but also significantly dilutes pollutants, reducing their concentrations. dual effect enhances dilution optimizes treatment outcome. The highest efficiencies were achieved COD (47.26%), TSS (99.52%), turbidity (99.30%), (98.19%). However, pH, dissolved (DO), electrical conductivity increased increasing times in process. Moreover, Seawater − integration reduces power usage 15.769 Am −2 costs approximately 0.20 USD/m 3 .
