As wastewater treatment advances, there is a growing need to remove pollutants and recover valuable resources. This study focuses on the optimization of aerobic granular sludge process, exploring impact varying anaerobic period production bioresources, i.e., synthesis extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), alginate-like exopolysaccharides (ALE — like exopolysaccharides), tryptophan (TRP). To this end, two sequential batch reactors (SBRs) were used, R1 R2, fed with acetic propionic acid, respectively, subjected different durations phase (100, 70, 35, 0 min) in total cycle time 6 h. The results similar regarding COD, N, P removal. However, R2 showed greater nitrate accumulation. Statistical analyses highlighted significant variations SPE concentrations phases (p<0.05) both systems. ALE was highest initial phase, decreasing reduction period. trend not observed system (p≈0.13). Tryptophan remained stable across all for reveal that duration significantly influences bioresource production, emphasizing importance defining optimal operational conditions efficient resource recovery treatment.

Municipal sewage sludge (MSS) is an inevitable byproduct of wastewater treatment, with increasing amounts year by worldwide. The development environmentally and economically acceptable methods for the sustainable management MSS a major environmental challenge. Nowadays, practices, besides commonly used stabilization methods, focus attention on alternative sludge-disposal pathways, which encompass enhanced energy valuable-resource recovery. This review presents recent advances in recovery selected value-added products from sludge. Because high nitrogen phosphorus concentrations, waste can be nutrient source (e.g., struvite). paper discusses conditions technology struvite As extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) biological sludge, alginate-like exopolymers (ALEs) are present systems that treat municipal wastewater. yields, dynamics content, characterization ALEs their possible applications were analyzed. important humic substances.
