Abstract Handling the waste associated with halogenated polymers is a daunting task due to well‐documented emission of halogen‐bearing toxicants during disposal or recycling operation. According Stockholm Convention treaty, most these products are classified as persistent organic pollutants their potential health hazards. This review aims provide holistic overview recent updates for treating polymeric through physical, chemical and biological approaches. In line inquiry, critical analysis obstacles prospects each degradation technique on polymer has been performed, assessing based efficiency, treatment upscaling, pollution control, feasibility. Though many treatments show promising results, they also entail drawbacks.
