Most nature and health research use the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for measuring greenness exposure. However, little is known about what NDVI measures in terms of types (e.g., canopy, grass coverage) within certain analysis zones 500 m buffer). Urban ecosystems play a crucial role in providing wide range of services to their inhabitants, and functioning is deeply intertwined with the effects climate change. The present review explores dynamic interplay between urban ecosystem change, highlighting reciprocal relationships, impacts, adaptation strategies associated these phenomena. environment, its built infrastructure, green spaces, diverse human activities, offers various that enhance wellbeing resilience dwellers. offer regulatory like temperature control, air quality upkeep, stormwater management, plus provisioning food water. They also provide cultural benefits, promoting recreation community unity. However, change poses significant challenges services. Rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, increased frequency extreme weather events can disrupt ecosystems, impacting provision Heatwaves heat island compromise health energy demands, while changes rainfall patterns strain management systems lead flooding. Moreover, biodiversity ecological processes, affecting overall sustainability ecosystems. To address challenges, cities are adopting recognize interdependence Green infrastructure interventions, such as creation parks, roofs, gardens, aim mitigate impacts by enhancing regulation temperature, improving quality, reducing runoff. Additionally, planning design approaches prioritize compact walkable neighborhoods, public transportation reliance on fossil fuels. Furthermore, engaging communities measures for ensuring equitable distribution building social resilience. Therefore, article highlights comprehensive understanding interrelationship implications. Abstract Decades of research on multifunctional Green Infrastructure (GI) has yet to translate into holistic implementation in the built environment. This oversight stems from assumptions that many ecosystem services occur passively and thus potential synergies are overlooked during planning design. study offers specific guidance for coordinating GI planning, design, construction by examining current state academic literature these aspects. It identifies 15 elements (e.g., green roofs) objectives biodiversity) collectively consider before implementation. The tends isolate discussions “engineered” with water-related objectives, while more “natural” linked biodiversity human well-being. Coordinating across remains imperative, but evaluating too options risks a paradox choice. recommends short-term adherence principles adaptive design and, long-term, reemphasizes multifunctionality assessments, inter transdisciplinary collaboration, political will.

Street trees can benefit urban spaces, and the characterization of them is a basis for evaluating their functions proper management. In this paper, we speculate that View imagery-based measurement favors characterizing street from individual tree sizes, growth status to spatial mapping risk region identification at multiple city levels. Using Wuhan, Changsha, Nanchang as examples, nearly 6000 sites over 111,000 Baidu (BSV) images were used measure status, vertical structure. Together with BSV-derived data, also calculated street-view greenness index (GVI) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) remote sensing then city-level was produced identify regions afforestation. The results showed BSV could compare trees, i.e., Changsha had 1.2–1.3-fold higher diameter, height, canopy size than lowest Nanchang; highest GVI, but NDVI; while NDVI, showing different significance between remote-sensing greenness. data urbanization effects, sizes decreased center edge, three cities same pattern. By using score summarized leaf blade color, tree-supported, dieback, dead-tree percents, thereafter, urbanization-induced decreases scores be observed suburbs. At urban-rural gradient, found structure tended complex, sky middle GVI ground rose in all general. made landscape available, map areas big-sized conservation, health problems, deficiency, over-simplified forest within or among cities. development complex associations characteristics geo-climates social decoupled by redundancy ordination. general, streets more pedestrians often accompanied taller, larger, healthier communities, an increasing sky/ground ratio greenery. Sustainable development policies and spatial planning for maintaining greenery are crucial all major cities in the world, measurement of green space indicators practice needs to evolve response demands times technological drivers. This study explores an informal urban indicator, view index (GVI), which uses visual perception observer measure quality by simulating pedestrian perspective road street-view image data then calculating proportion vegetation landscape. The GVI is different from macro indicators, such as public recreational space, forest coverage, rate, derived or remote sensing traditional planning; it starts bottom-up individual residents more relevant their subjective demands. At present, most international have made outstanding achievements controlling rates, other macrolevel quality; however, with promotion concept “human-oriented” planning, potential restoration at microlevel gradually being recognized. To ensure efficiency reliability this study, inspired computer vision techniques related studies, a research method based on chromaticity was built identify proportions street images, credibility improved eliminating unreliable data. By using method, we could evaluate city overall scale instead previous block scale. final result showed that Shenzhen friendly human senses, streets developed areas generally higher than developing areas. geostatistical analysis viewpoint provides intuitive guide researchers planners, believed inform design environmentally friendly, smart, sustainable future cities.
