Protected areas (PAs) help in strategies for maintaining biodiversity and inhibiting deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. However, there are few studies that evaluate effectiveness lands protected by states (or federation units). Our goal was to compare land use change over 35 years state-level PAs with another area protection, both Maranhão state, Brazil. We employed remote sensing techniques, geographic information system (GIS), statistical analysis analyses covariance (ANCOVAS) analyze presence classes PA. The results indicate state were effective preserving forest cover decelerating grazing. implications discussed context supporting public policies at level protection Amazon.

The National Key Ecological Function Zones (NKEFZ) serve as crucial ecological security barriers in China, playing a vital role enhancing ecosystem services. This study employed the theoretical framework of benefits assessment major engineering projects. primary focus was on macrostructure, quality, and key services, enabling quantitative analysis spatiotemporal changes status NKEFZ from 2000 to 2019. To achieve this, remote sensing data, meteorological model simulations were investigate five indicators, including land use types, vegetation coverage, net productivity vegetation, soil conservation water windbreak sand fixation incorporated Theil–Sen Median method construct an evaluation system for assessing restoration ecosystems, effectively integrating quality services indicators. research findings indicated that primarily characterized by expansion unused grassland. overall these zones improved, showing stable increasing trend. The achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions, is significantly hindered by the prevalence violent crime, particularly gang violence interpersonal violence, a situation that especially acute in resource-limited developing nations. This study investigates application Geographic Information System (GIS) as strategic tool to bolster efforts Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) local authorities (PBT) Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (KLFT), Putrajaya (WFT), Malaysia, their fight against crime. research meticulously maps crime hotspots analyses interplay between incidence enabling data-informed approach prevention. Moreover, it evaluates challenges nations encounter harnessing such technological advancements, focusing on potential collaborations with private entities like Google Alibaba enhance efficacy GIS technologies realising SDG-16. expected reveal significant identifying delineate obstacles countries face adopting technology. By highlighting constructive role private-sector partnerships fostering these contributes SDG-16’s objective building thereby supporting overall sustainable development agenda.
