Abstract Urban green spaces play a critical role in regulating air temperature, reducing pollution and enhancing people’s well being. Yet, existing data research on potential drivers of urban space availability Latin America are limited. Here, focusing 371 large cities 11 countries America, we described the total per capita variability space, its spatial configuration parks across categories cities’ natural, built socioeconomic environments. We tested relative importance geographic (climate) versus city-level environment (population, population density, street intersection density) (city gross domestic product capita, unemployment, education) explaining availability. found high level heterogeneity quantity Relative to other city factors, climate zone had largest influence whereas education, density were most important park The significance for availability, combined with inequitable indicates that have differing capacities implement nature-based solutions heat mitigation health promotion.

The importance of urban forest management and carbon cycle research has increased amidst ongoing urbanization. Understanding the potential impact fine woody debris (FWD) retention as a strategy on soil organic (SOC) levels stability in forests is crucial. In this study, four FWD treatments (no retention, CK; low LR; medium MR; high HR) were implemented Harbin Picea koraiensis Nakai plantations to investigate SOC pool response these treatments. treatment had no significant effect soil’s physical chemical properties concentration, but significantly reduced total potassium NO3− concentrations. active fractions carbon-degrading enzyme activities, while reducing leucine aminopeptidase, polyphenol oxidase pool. random model showed that particulate carbon, cellobiohydrolases, β-xylosidase activities factors affected These findings suggest retaining large amount northeast China can benefit by accelerating turnover fractions.

Greenery initiatives, such as green infrastructures (GIs), create sustainable and climate-resilient environments. However, they can also have unintended consequences, displacement gentrification in low-income areas. This paper proposes an integrated machine learning (ML) approach that combines both unsupervised supervised ML algorithms. First, 35 indicators contribute to were identified categorised into 7 categories: social, economic, demographic, housing, household, amenities, GIs. Second, data was collected for all census tracts New York City. Third, the susceptibility modelled 6 levels using k-means clustering analysis, which is model. Fourth, Technique Order of Preference by Similarity Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) used map their level. Finally, different algorithms trained tested predict susceptibility. The results showed artificial neural network (ANN) model most accurate classifying predicting with overall accuracy 96%. Moreover, outcomes Normal Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), proximity GIs, GIs frequency, total area important Ultimately, proposed allows practitioners researchers perform micro-level (i.e. on census-tracts level) predictions inferences about more focused targeted mitigation actions be designed implemented affected communities, thus promoting environmental justice.
